MUCKAMORE VILLAGE 3485
This is the second row of the Muckamore houses which are next to the Sixmilewater river and it is June 1981.
Now the buildings you see right over the river they are out-houses where they had primitive water flushed toilets that were still in use at that time.
They where built there for it was the most convenient modern way to get to get rid of your waste although can you imagine having to go down there in the middle of the night and even more so if it was the middle of the night. Or during the day with snow on the ground and remember it would not be too warm in there. The two rows of houses were built back to back and this left an entry wide enough for a horse and cart. ow the front row of houses because they had no river at the back of their gardens they had dry toilets. So at regular intervals a man would come with the horse and cart and at the back of dry toilets
was a steel plate which the man lifted and then shoveled out the contents and into the cart. The air in the summer would have been not very nice, but there were no complaints from the residents who were glad enough to have a job in York Street Mill and the tied house that went with it.

On drums is John Carson, who lived up Spinddler's Entry on Church Street, which is sadly now demolished. Perhaps because he is looking away, it is harder to say who is on the piano player is. The best quess Frank Boal, who lived in Riverside at the end of the river wall.
