This is Jackson Fleming who first attended Massereene Primary Education School
and then Antrim Primary School which is still in Railway Street. Later on
in life he became a male nurse at Holywell Hospital and is now retired.
MAY FLEMING 3092
Standing proudly in her Territorial Army uniform back in 1952 and was based
at Victoria Barracks just down from Duncairn Parade in Belfast is May Fleming
who hailed from Antrim.
Looking at May with her trim waist and slim figure, you would never have thought
that May went on to learn and drive 3 ton army trucks herself!

Here in the back garden of her home at Firfields on the Lough Road in 1952
is May Fleming, standing with her bike which has a basket on the handlebars
is perhaps going to the shops.

In one of their back gardens these good friends have gathered together to
have their photograph taken.
Standing at the back the first two ladies are unknown but the lady at the
end is Mary Heron. In front the first lady is Margaret Smith, the other is
Unknown.
GEORGE FLEMING 3379
On the right sharpening his scythe is head gardener George Fleming , the man
on the left with his fancy braces and puffing away on his pipe is Unknown.
When you look at the size of the castle grounds they must have been at it
forever, behind them is the motte and beyond that Antrim Castle as this photograph
was taken on the 5th July 1923. That means you are seeing the shell of the
castle as it was set on fire 9 months earlier on the 29th October 1922.
FAMILY GATHERING 3661
Well here are in the back garden of this garden photograph with none of the
people known. Well we have the father on the left, then the Sergant of the
North Irish Soldiers, their daughter and finally the mother with a nice big
cabbage growing beside here. I wonder what the photograph was taken for?
for the family are all dressed up, is this their going off to war or better
still is that a ring on her finger and they've just got engaged, if so I hope
he comes home safely. Now if you know the right reason please let me know
and I will send you a copy without the water mark.

STEEPLE GROUNDS 1372
Taken in 1937 this photograph shows Antrim's Round Tower before the "Witches
Stone" was moved up from further down the grounds. Here you can see the
stone steps that used to lead up to the door in the Tower and also the Tennis
courts that were in front. The two boys in the photo are on the left running
towards the camera, Bob Fawcett and the other is his brother Sammy Fawcett
who is pointing an air rifle over to the right of the picture.
STEEPLE HOUSE 1366
Standing on the steps of her home is Peggy Fawcett in 1944. Her home Steeple
House later became the Old Council Offices.
ROBERT FAWCETT 1374
This is Robert Fawcett who's brother Sam ran the Antrim Arms Hotel in which
he is sitting. The year is unknown.
FISHING FAMILY 3422
Here we have a fishing family father,mother & son removing the fish they
caught from their nets which they had put in Lough Neagh. Some of the fish
they could catch to feed themselves or sell locally are Perch, Rudd and Plooan
among others. That looks to have a Perch in his net while the father's sorting
out the nets and the mother is putting the fish in the tin bucket for her
basket is full of fish. When they have finished they will probably have a
cup of something nice and hot from the blackened pot and into the tin cups
on the wooden box. Sadly the family are unknown to me and the year but if
you know differnt please let me know.

Out for the day these families from Antrim are having a great time while having

On the right is Gerald Foreberg who is being welcomed by Adam Gillespie to
Hall's Hotel in 1959 after his historic Lough Neagh swim. He swam some 20
miles in the Lough from the South West to the North East, Gerald Foreberg
is still in his swiming gear and looking forward to a nice hot bath.

Sitting on the Antrim Castle wall is Olive Fleming and in the background you
can see part of the Octagon tower and the Castle. If Olive turned to her left
and walked straight down by the wall she would end up at the Pump room.

Here we are in Antrim Castle grounds and this is Olive Fleming looking at
the lilies in the long pond. Olive remembers when she was a young girl because
she was the tallest she got the job of getting the lilies!

House. George who worked for Lord Massereene is only posing here with the
gun and his trusty dog.

This is Juan Manual Fangio racing at Dundrod in the Tourist Trophy race.
Juan Manuel Fangio (June 24, 1911 July 17, 1995), nicknamed El
Chueco ("knock-kneed") or El Maestro ("The Master"),
was a racing car driver from Argentina, who dominated the first decade of
Formula One racing. He won five Formula One World Driver's Championships a
record which stood for 46 years until eventually beaten by Michael Schumacher
with four different teams (Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati),
a feat that has not been repeated since. Many still consider him to be the
greatest driver of all time.[2] He has the highest winning percentage in Formula
One (46.15%) compared to Schumacher's 33.09%.
He is the only Argentine driver to have won the Argentine Grand Prix, having
won it four times in his career.

Here we are in the Francey family home in 1943 and these two bundles of joy
are May and Drew Francey.

Standing in the doorway of her home somewhere in and Antrim is dear little
old lady who is someone's grandmother. Here she stands having her photograph
taken holding a bunch of flowers given to her possibly by her own children
or even her grandchildren.
Holding on to her walking stick with most likely Arthritis in her hands, I
am told she could either be a Fleming or a Millar.
WE ARE SAILING 2614
It's 1953 and we are here in harbour at Portrush and waiting to go out on
a boat trip are these four trusty sailors. On the left is John Hume, then
Jim Francey, David Johnston and finally Jim's brother Drew Francey.
THE FAMOUS THREE 2612
Here we have the famous three who played in the streets of Antrim having their
photograph taken at the side wall of Orr School.
They are Jim Francey aged 8, May Francey and Drew Francey aged 6 back in 1948.

SittingTaken in 1965 this was the Frenchman's house in Castle Street and here
it also was that the head gardener of Antrim Castle lived with his family.
The next building used to be the police station.

These two ladies are sisters on the left is Maggie Fleming and beside her
is Lizzie Fleming taking a rest before climbing the steps to visit the zoo
or go on the small train. Having come all the way from Antrim on a bus trip
they are not going to miss out on anything
A B D MEMORIAL PIPE BAND 2834
Standing proud in his A.B.D. Memorial Pipe Band brand new uniform for the
band had only been started is George Fleming.
The Viscount Massereene & Ferrard gave George £10 to go and buy
the band room in Castle Street which of course he did.
