JAMES CRAWFORD CARSON 2985
This James Crawford Carson who in 1884 owned a pub in Church Street, in 1895 it became a Refreshment shop and in 1899 he became a Coach builder.
Now looking at the trap he has just built it would seem James does an excellent job.

Heading off to work is Derek Carson aged 14 1/2 with his father John Car back in 1954.

Here we are at Massereene Golf course during June of 1959 and it’s a Sunday.
The reason I know it's a Sunday is back then it was a weekly ritual to walk from the centre to the Lough shore with your mates. The girls did the same and you hoped that you might click with one of them.
At the back on the left is Jamsie Houston - Emigrated to Canada then Derek Carson and Michael Campbell. Middle row has Victor Fulton, Raymond Peoples and John Creighton.
In front are Brian Crawford, Ronnie Millar and Ivan Baxter. Can anyone tell me why Brian and Ivan are in their stocking feet? The shadows caused by the boys the white spots are daisies.
BABY SITTING 2988
Here looking after his baby brother Derek Carson back in 1941 is Trevor Carson.
Now just look at that pram, suspension a basket for you daily shopping and as it was summertime a canopy to keep off the sun but still get the fresh air.

This is Mrs Carson with her husband Mr James Carson in 1932 at The Garage 7 Church Street Antrim and behind them is his shed for flammable liquids. The shadow on Mrs Carson's dress is of the person taking their photo.

Having just called in for a quick pint after a hard day at work is John Carson on the right who was a Spark.
The barman is unknown but they seem to be enjoying a great crac.

Right at the front are Gretta and Trevor Carson.
JAMES C CARSON 3001
This is James C Carson who later on in life and lived in Church Street attending an event and due to an accident James has lost both hands.
James was known affectionally as 'Cleat' because he used hooks, then on the 19th September 1920 James went home.

Sitting outside his home in 1932 is James C Carson with his Hawthorn walking stick and keeping a firm hold on the dog.

This is James C Carson and his wife Agnes Carson, they lived at 2 High Street Antrim in the 1800's when James was a Publican.

Here we are in the grounds of Muckamore Presbyterian Church on the 17th September 1930 to have a wedding photograph taken.

Thomas Henry Carroll Groom, Madame Drinkwater's Neice, Madame Drinkwater, Edith Catherine Carroll and James Davison McCombe Bride's brother and Margaret's husband.
At the front we have Joan Killips Bride's neice, Beatrice McComb (not related) Bridesmaid, Eva Lawther Carroll nee McCombe Bride, Dorothy Carroll Bridesmaid and Groom's Sister and finally Muriel Killips Bride's neice.


Eva the Bride was quite an accomplished opera singer and her tutor was Madame Drinkwater who was one of the guests.

Now Edith Katherine Carroll who 12 years later is one of the guests in the photograph was murdered in the Japanese invasion of
Singapore when they massacred all staff & patients in the Alexandra Hospital on the 14th February 1942 where she was a Nursing Sister.

CARROLL CHILDREN 3008
This photograph which the photographer has coloured was taken in 1934. On the left is Jonathan Shelton Carroll who was born on the 9th July 1933, then we have sweet little Evva Phyllis Carroll born on the 20th October 1934 and finally Thomas George Henry Carroll born on the 22nd July 1931.
Now Jonathan lives in Australia and Evva lives in Saintfield. Sadly Thomas died of Diphteria on the 26th February 1939 aged just 8 years old.
CHRISTMAS DAY 3015
The turkey has been eaten and they are all sitting having a nice cup of tea with their cracker hats on. At the moment the only people known are Harry McCleary holding the HP sauce bottle to his mouth and partly hidden beside him is his wife Josey.
The little lady second from the left is Ellen Young. Do you remember the paper wall decorations, when Christmas was over and you took them down and you had to spend a long time folding them back.
CELEBRATION 3016
Having their photograph taken at some kind of celebration with two cakes and a cake stand with biscuits and sandwiches on the table.
On the left standing is Alex Baxter, Harold Young, Harry McCleary, Margaret Baxter, Josey McCleary and seated in front of her is her mother Ellen Young, the celebration was her birthday.

Wedding took place at Killead Parish Church in Crumlin on the 8th December 1949.
The Groom is John Arthur Clarke from Ballylurgan, Randalstown and his bride Winifred Thomasina McCord from Aldergrove.

Here we are in the Clarke's back yard and this is an expression of love for we see Irene Clarke giving her brother John a big hug and a kiss.

CHRISTMAS SHOPPING 1428
Snapped by a street photographer in Belfast having travelled from Antrim in December 1934 we have Mrs Margaret Ferguson with her daughter Ester Stevenson and holding her grandaughter Eileen. As you can see by their faces the stress of Christmas Shopping hasn't changed much over the years!

Taken in 1949 the man on the right is just passing Maggie Ann Jaminson's shop and further down was McCabe's butchers.
Back then they had a great selction of different coloured cars, as you can see you could have black or black.

This is the old RIC barracks in Castle Street before it too made way for progress.
CHRISTENING 1878
This is Terence O'Neill. next to his wife Sadie O'Neill they were the Godparents to Francis Madden son of Celia and Francis Madden who is in her arms.
They were in the back garden after the christening at St.Comgalls in 1962.

It's 1916 and we are here at Creavery Primary School for their annual photograph.
I wonder if any of the children including the Teacher had lost a brother, a son or a Daddy, for the battle of the Somme had taken place that July.

CASTLE STREET 49
Here you can see the Scouts and in the distance the Girl Guides marching along Castle street towards the town to celebrate Empire Youth Day in 1954. The building to your right is the old Brew Centre, beyond the hedges the small building was the Band room. Across the road the sign saying OFFICE is the entrance to Samuel Rea's Antrim Saw Mills. Of the people in the photograph I can tell you that the man in the bottomleft hand corner is called Bertie Goudy, the man on the motorbike is the late Jimmy Huston, behind him on the bike is his wife Isabell Huston nee Gibb and the young chap walking behind is Matt McCullough.

Seen here walking with the lodge down Castle Street on the "Twelth" in 1973 we have on the left Ken Williamson, Billy Kingsbury and Dougie Lynn.
The band behind them is the Albertbridge Accordian Band from Belfast.
COOKERY LESSONS 1119
This is Chef Smith from Bonnybridge in Scotland who travelled around giving cooking demonstrations on the 'Esse' cooker which they were promoting.
This was taken in a church hall in Antrim and as you can see the ladies who are unknown are busy taking notes - it was in the late 50's.

SAMUEL JOHN CARSON 3233
Standing on a bench that did not come out of B&Q is Samuel John Carson in his wollen trouser suit at his home in Fortwilliam where his family had moved
to from Maghrabeg, Randallstown. Ironically the Carson family had to move back to Maghrabeg Randalstown because of the Blitz in WWII.
BATHING BELLES 3235
All the way from Antrim to here sitting on the rocks at Donaghadee after a good swim we have on the left Annie Rea, Eva Rea, Kathleen Rea.
Then mum Jean Rea who was chaperoning the three bathing belles along with daughter-in-law Millie.
When you look at the photograph you would class it as if they hadn't a care in the world when in fact it was 1940 and Germany had conquered most of Europe and we were on our own and waiting on a German invasion.

This is Sergeant Tim Costello who was in the RAFC.
Tim was also a scout master for 30 years of 1st Antrim Scouts.
