This is a sad looking photograph of McKenna
the butchers shop in 1957 for it is the end of a era, a time of happy memories
As Martha Mather recalls : ' So much fun and
laughter in this shop, good people, loved going on a Saturday for the Sunday
dinner meat, Francis was just a lovely man.
William Duffin : ' Remember it well, a great
butcher shop, marble worktops, always a fine sprinkling of sawdust on the
floor with maybe a hint of Jeyes fluid in the air. The twins
ack and Eddie or "Him and Me" as they were known as on duty with
a bit of a chat. Francis was a real gentleman with always a smile on his face,
and Mary in the background
keeping an eye on all the goings on -- a great place for a chat.
Now if you have any happy memories of being here please send them in to me
and I will send you one of the McKenna's photos you would like. Email:

Here we are inside McKenna's pub which
was on Main Street in Ballymoney. Behind the bar serving is Paddy McKenna
while standing in front of the bar is Mickey Mallon.
People fondly remember Mickey as a lovey man who was the Lollipop man at the
bottom of the town.

Standing outside the McKenna butchers
in Church Street Ballymoney with one of the family showing off their large
amount of Beef and remember these are hanging outside,
no Health laws back then. You can see they have not yet added their shop sign
to above the window.

Here we are on Church Street outside
McKenna the butchers, I am presuming the man with the walking stick is John
McKenna having his photograph taken with friends.
McKENNA_4271
This photograph taken at McKenna's butchers
shop in Church Street Ballymoney probably to advertise their meats with a
side of beef hanging outside and various cuts of meat
hanging inside. What I noticed was the two prices for Beef and Sausages, 9d
old money for a pound of their finest sausages and 6d old money for a pound
of beef. In todays
(10/09/2024) prices that would be 4 pence for
the sausages and 2.5 pence for the beef !

TStanding outside his shop doorway
in Ballymoney is Mr. McAfee and two of his staff. From looking at his shop
window it is a hardware shop, he must also sell a large amount
of galvanised buckets going by what is outside. On the left there are4 boxes
holding fragile goods for they a packed with straw, on down we have large
woven oval baskets with
handles either end. Can anyone tell me what they were used for?
If
you can I will if you want send you this photograph. Email: len.kinley@hotmail.com
